Turkish Foreign Minister: hotels in Antalya will accept about 80 thousand earthquake victims

On Thursday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that 80,000 people who suffered from the earthquake in the southeast of Turkey could be accommodated in the hotels in Antalya.

The minister confirmed information that more than 30,000 citizens have been evacuated from the disaster zone since Wednesday.

“The victims are housed in social institutions of the state. Also, many closed hotels have opened their doors to the victims. Other open hotels have allocated rooms for them. In Antalya alone we will be able to accommodate more than 80 thousand victims in hotels,” Çavuşoğlu said at a joint press conference in Adana with his counterpart from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to him, so far more than 11 thousand victims have arrived in Antalya from the disaster area.

The magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred in southeastern Turkey on Monday morning. It was, according to President Tayyip Erdogan, the strongest since 1939. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 struck on the same day. The death toll from the quake in ten Turkish provinces rose to 14,351 and the wounded to 63,794. A seven-day national mourning period was announced in Turkey and a three-month state of emergency was declared in 10 disaster-affected provinces. Search and rescue operations have been completed in two provinces.
